Zaid B. Islam

Board Chair Zaid B. Islam is a true Buffalonian, a resident of the Fruit Belt for over 60 years.

He attended Canisius College and graduated from Buffalo Urban Center, studying Sociology specializing in deviant behaviors, minor in Urban Planning.

He is one of the founding members of the Western New York Chapter for the Muslim Public Affairs Council, formally served as Vice President from (2012-2014) as well as President (2015- 2017). He is the past president of the Fruit Belt Homeowner and Tenant Council, organizing a weekly food pantry for the underprivileged.

Currently, he serves as the Chairperson of the Orchard Community Initiative, which brings many programs and services to the Fruit Belt community, including a computer lab at JBW Sports Center and Fruit Belt Banner Project that can be seen along Carlton St.

He serves as an Islamic Chaplain at the Niagara County Correctional Facility. Additionally, he is a founding member of the F.B. Community Land Trust and founding member of the Fruit Belt Advisory Board and a member of Community First Alliance.

His passion is his family and community service.
